Towards 'intelligence'! China's robots are 'running'
2025-06-20
Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, June 19 (Reporters Chen Fang, Wen Jinghua, and Chen Xu) An artificial intelligence revolution, even more profound than the Industrial Revolution, is imminent. Chinese robots are accelerating their development!
Dribbling, passing, shooting, goal! Player No. 1 raises their arms in celebration after scoring three consecutive goals. Player No. 2, on the other hand, appears somewhat dejected, continuously tapping their feet and pacing.
At the "Robot World" in Beijing's Robot Industry Park (Yizhuang), the "Vital China Research Trip" reporter group recently watched an interesting football match between humanoid robots from Beijing Accelerated Evolution Company. It was this robot that enabled the Chinese team to win the championship at the RoboCup Robot World Cup Germany Open in March this year.
The Chinese innovation showcased on the football field is a microcosm of the rapid development of Beijing's robot industry. Currently, Beijing has more than 400 backbone robot enterprises, ranking first in the country in terms of the number of national specialized and new "small giant" robot enterprises and humanoid robot units.
Walking through "Robot World," a vision of future life unfolds: on one side, industrial robots skillfully sort and transport goods at both ends of the conveyor belt; on the other side, an orthopedic replacement surgery robot generates a precise personalized surgical plan in just 5 minutes; back home, a home robot is making hamburgers and tidying clothes... From technological innovation to application landing, the achievements of robot industry development are dazzling.
Liang Hongjun, deputy director of the Intelligent Manufacturing and Equipment Industry Division of the Beijing Municipal Commission of Economy and Information Technology, introduced that in recent years, Beijing has given full play to its advantages in technological and industrial innovation, implementing the "100 New Robot Products Project" and the "100 Application Scenarios Demonstration Project" to build a domestic robot technology innovation source, application demonstration highland, and high-end industrial cluster.
The robot industry is not just "looking cool"; it is accelerating its integration into actual production and life.
Various minimally invasive surgeries can be performed through a single small incision, and the unique serpentine surgical manipulator allows for precise control of the bending direction and angle... At Beijing Shurui Robot Co., Ltd., located in the Beijing Daxing Biomedicine Industrial Base, single-port laparoscopic surgery robots are being produced.
After a brief training session by the staff, the reporter sat at the operating table, their eyes close to the endoscope, their fingers lightly resting on the manipulator, as if entering a 10x magnified 3D "game world": with a light pinch of the thumb and middle finger, the serpentine arm firmly grips a 5mm small ring; with a gentle lift of the hand, the serpentine arm moves accordingly, gripping, lifting, and releasing, completing a series of delicate looping actions.
In 2023, Shurui's single-port surgical robot received approval from the National Medical Products Administration, with the approval notice evaluating it as "internationally pioneering technology, effectively filling a domestic gap." "Two years later, Shurui robots have been clinically applied in more than 70 hospitals nationwide, participating in more than 1,500 surgeries, improving the precision of doctors' operations and reducing patient trauma," said Xu Kai, founder of Shurui Robot.
This is the momentum of "creation" and the spirit of "breaking through." Since 2023, Beijing has promoted the application of 199 innovative robot products in 134 scenarios, covering 11 fields including industrial manufacturing, commercial services, education, medical care, agriculture, and gardening. In 2024, Beijing's robot industry revenue exceeded 30 billion yuan, an increase of nearly 50% year-on-year.
Not only Beijing, but also Shenzhen, Hangzhou, Shanghai, and other places are continuously developing the robot industry. Currently, China's robot industry has firmly established itself in the world's first echelon: it has maintained its position as the world's largest industrial robot market for 11 consecutive years, with more than 190,000 valid robot-related patents, accounting for about two-thirds of the global total. Chinese companies account for more than one-third of the global top 100 humanoid robot list.
This year's Government Work Report proposed cultivating future industries such as embodied intelligence. As the most typical application carrier of embodied intelligence, humanoid robots have become the undisputed focus of competition in the field. The China Electronics Society predicts that by 2030, the market size of humanoid robots in China is expected to reach approximately 870 billion yuan.
"In 2023, humanoid robots were competing to see who could walk a few steps; in 2024, they started competing to see who could run; and in 2025, the focus will shift to intelligent operation and service capabilities, rapidly penetrating into industrial and general industrial, commercial service, and household life sectors," said Li Chunzhi, deputy general manager of the National and Local Jointly Built Embodied Intelligence Robot Innovation Center.
In April this year, Beijing hosted the world's first humanoid robot half-marathon, attracting global attention and propelling a number of domestic humanoid robot companies to "break out." Songyan Power, which won second place, is one such "dark horse".
As a new company with a team of many "post-00s" and established only two years ago, Songyan Power, with its style of "dare to experiment and iterate quickly," has achieved rapid acceleration in the humanoid robot sector. "Within a month after the marathon, we received more than 1,000 orders, and currently, the total contract value has exceeded 100 million yuan. With the support of Beijing's supporting policies, we have achieved mass production capacity in just three months," said Jiang Zheyuan, founder of Songyan Power.
The confidence of a group of robot companies comes from the continuously optimized industrial development environment. Liang Hongjun said that in recent years, Beijing has introduced a series of measures to promote the innovative development of the robot industry, providing policy, financial, platform, and service support for the entire chain from early research and development and pilot production to scenario applications.
Industry insiders believe that 2025 will be the first year of mass production of humanoid robots, and with the rapid development of technology and continuous policy support, 2026 will see an explosion in commercial applications.
After the industrialization of humanoid robots, how will supporting services such as display, sales, and maintenance, and full-life-cycle operation and maintenance keep up? Beijing has once again thought ahead and acted ahead: Beijing Robot Industry Park (Yizhuang) is building the world's first embodied intelligence robot 4S store, building a service system covering the entire life cycle of robots. Currently, more than 100 upstream and downstream enterprises in the robot industry chain have expressed their intention to settle in.
Dare to be the first in the world! From the robot marathon to the robot 4S store, Beijing continues to strengthen its radiation and attraction as a global robot industry highland. Driven by open scenarios and huge demand, this land is accelerating its transformation into an innovation highland that nurtures the future of the robot industry and connects the global market.
